Pagham, The Salt House

This pleasant walk starts from The Old Salt House at the edge of Pagham Harbour, a local nature reserve. RSPB At the start there are views out across the mudflats from the sea wall then the walk goes in land across fields and back. Welly boots are recommended as the fields can flood.

The Route - From the Salt House follow the sea wall along the edge of Pagham Harbour towards Sidlesham. After approx 500m take the footpath R, go down to the stile and cross into a field, follow the path as it goes slightly left to a gate at the far end of the field. Go through the gate and right to a second gate. Cross the stile next to the gate and follow the unmade road ahead for approx 1.3km (⅘ ml), until you reach the village of North Mundham.

At the fingerpost take the footpath L and after crossing a bridge follow the footpath ahead, keeping the hedge to your left. Walk along the edge of the field for approx 300m until you reach a fingerpost and follow the footpath L over another stile into another field. Turn R and keeping the hedge on your right follow the footpath until you come to a farm. Cross the stile and at the road turn L, after crossing a cattle grid continue ahead until the road bears left to Bramber Farm. Go through the gate ahead and turn R and

through a small gate into the field ahead. At the fingerpost turn L and follow the track to another fingerpost. Turn L and at next fingerpost take the footpath L, follow this to a bridge crossing the Bremere Rife. Cross the bridge and turn L. Follow the fence to a gate where you cross the stile and R up to the next gate. Turn R and keeping the hedge on your left follow the footpath until you meet another gate approx 900m. Go through the gate and bear L uphill into the field, from here cross the field diagonally right to a fingerpost ahead, turn R and follow this to a large stile. Cross the stile and follow the path to reach the water’s edge. Turn L and walk along the sea wall back to the Salt House.
